Dude, I'm 40 pounds overweight, have LONG hair, and a beard. I'm the most unconvincing german there is. Crusher caps are by far the best headgear I've seen.

That's false. I'm sorry you are so obstinate. First of all, conscription of the Latvian Legion began in early 1943, not 1944, and immediately after the German invasion of Latvia in 1941, conscription was begun covertly and those conscripted forced to sign documents saying they had "volunteered."

I have several aquaintances who fought in Russia, Latvia, and Germany with Army Group North, the 15th and 19th Divisions of the Waffen SS, as well as family members who fought.

I also had some relatives, some are in Russia to this day in a pit.

And can you elaborate with more details about the conscription in 1941, were they for the Waffen-SS? I have to read up on it.
( I completly screwed up the 1944 date, conscripts were called up in 1943 from '15-'24, in '44 a younger age group was called up)

I used to have all sorts of stuff that would contribute. Like 4 zelts. I sold it all though because the lack in interest in manitoba for ww2 themed stuff was pretty low. I guess i regret doing that now. Way to all of you who are into it keeping HUSH HUSH.

Well, the way they did it as of December 19, 1942 (not 1941 that I know of -sorry my mistake), was they would draft you for alleged "labor" service using the department of labor as a drafting agent, and you were offered a choice of service:

- Auxilliary Wehrmacht
- Order Police
- Waffen SS Legion
- War Labor

Afterwards the draftees were forced to sign that they had joined the chosen service voluntarily. If you chose none of them, you got to visit a concentration camp. This is why I find the word Freiwillig ironic.
