I've staged the Raptor in three different V2 mechboxes, a DBoys, G&P, and King Arms. Installation was completed in only one of these, the G&P. The DBoys PDW selector plate is metal and special for the ambi selector so I need to wait to get a backup before I do any crazy mods; the one intended for the King Arms M4 came DOA; the G&P one installed flawlessly and works absolutely fine. Here it is staged in the G&P mechbox:

It's easy to see how the trigger could mash/snap the microswitch if the unit is too close to the trigger or if the trigger has too much volume at the top of the hammer. When you install the Raptor you MUST take the time to calmly test all three microswitches to ensure nothing is too tight. The cutoff lever switch, the selector plate switch, and the trigger switch.

You can get the trigger switch to work well and prevent catastrophe if you ensure that it is only allowed to travel about 70-80% of its distance towards the PCB. That way the trigger physically cannot hammer it into the Raptor unit even if you lent out your gun to a careless newbie.

I'll try to report back as I play around. I haven't had a lot of time to tinker with this thing and I don't fully understand how it works yet. For example, the default settings are fine out of the box, but I'm not sure how to make them stick between battery swaps, or if that's even possible. It's really easy to program, though.

It is a very nice tiny package and it give a clean installation.

Why don't you modify the trigger and make it adjustable. Just a thought. It's a $9 trigger vs a $100 MOSFET.

Sorry, I think I was a bit unclear in my babbling :)

What I meant to say is that some people are under the impression that the trigger could potentially damage the FET or its microswitch in some way. During installation, to me it was pretty obvious to see how this could happen. A clumsy installer or mechbox newbie might easily damage their FET / microswitch while inserting the trigger. In addition, if the mechbox isn't fairly close to TM spec, the top of the trigger could come crashing against the FET or microswitch, causing either instant or gradual damage.

The opposite case is also true: It's possible that the trigger's range of motion will not be enough to depress the microswitch deep enough to register a trigger pull. AWS includes a note about using epoxy to add volume to the trigger if this happens..

Finally, to be clear, in the case of the G&P mechbox in which I have personally installed the Raptor FET, no modification was necessary and the trigger positioning and range of motion was perfect, and seems very safe. Edit: Also, the trigger feels really awesome without all the friction of the cumbersome v2 trigger contacts to grind against. If you guys are looking to pair these with a given gearbox, G&P will work great. I will probably try others throughout 2012 as the FETs become more widely available.

i think as programming goes for the raptor, it will save the last setting it had when you unplug it. so swapping batteries should be fine so long as they are the same. ie. swapping a lipo for a lipo, nicad for a nicad.

How does the ExtremeFire Cheetah-2N compare to the AWS Raptor?
I'm in the market for a mosfet for my Socom Gear N4, both look like great units, i'm not sure if theres any benefit/trade off to one vs the other?

Thanks in advance.

Any word on any mosfets that Will function but no active break and will work in a PTS? With the burst lipo monitoring etc?

I'm not sure where most people wire in a cheetah into a v2 or v3 configuration, but I have 2 cheetah platform mosfets in my p90 and one about to go into my m14, since their gearboxes don't conform to those 2 standards.

The raptor is convenient for your since it will fit in the gearbox, the cheetah has to fit somewhere else and some people have said it doesn't quite fit anywhere.

I haven't tried the raptor cause of my weird gearboxes, but I like some of the features on it, where the cheetah doesn't have those options.

The only thing I worry about on the raptor is wearing out that micro switch since it replaces the mechanical trigger assembly.

I am also curious about what mosfets work in a PTS Masada. Considering picking one up and just gauging options.
